How to export your chat
Open the chat in WhatsApp.
Tap ⋮ (More options), then More, then Export chat.
Choose Include media to keep photos, or Without media for a smaller file.
Save the file to your phone, then come back and choose it here.
Open the chat and tap the contact or group name at the top.
Scroll down and tap Export Chat.
Choose Attach Media to keep photos, or Without Media.
Tap Save to Files, then come back and choose the ZIP here.
Include media adds photos, videos, voice notes and documents. Without media gives a smaller file, and photos are listed by name.

What you get from one export
PDF. A typeset PDF in one of two layouts: Chat, with bubbles and photos, or Transcript, a numbered table for legal and HR files. Every PDF starts with a cover page listing the participants, the period, how many messages are shown, any filters you used, and the SHA-256 of your export. An evidence appendix lists every media file. Big chats are split into volumes.
The PDF is made by your browser’s own print engine: choose Save as PDF in the print dialog — we show you where for your browser.
HTML archive. A ZIP with a standalone index.html, your original photos and files, the original chat text and a manifest. It opens offline in any browser.
CSV. One row per message, UTF-8 with a byte-order mark so Excel reads accents and Arabic correctly, and protected against formula injection.
Evidence manifest. A JSON and a plain-text file listing the SHA-256 of every file, the counts, the filters and the tool version.
How evidence mode works
Evidence mode is on by default. While your chat is read, chatinprint computes the SHA-256 fingerprint of the export file you chose and of every photo, video and document inside it, from the original bytes and not from the smaller copies used in the PDF. All of this happens on your device.
The cover page and the manifest record the fingerprints, the first and last message times, how many messages were shown out of the total, and every filter. Times are the exporting phone’s local time; WhatsApp records no time zone, and the PDF says so.
This PDF is a convenience copy generated on your device. It is not a certified, notarised or legally authenticated document.
The SHA-256 values let anyone check that files were not changed after hashing. They do not prove who sent a message.
To check a fingerprint yourself, run shasum -a 256 <file> on macOS or Linux, or certutil -hashfile <file> SHA256 on Windows, and compare it with the manifest.

Every language, laid out correctly
chatinprint reads exports from phones set to English (US, UK, India), Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Spain, Mexico and Latin America), Indonesian, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Russian — including Arabic-Indic, Devanagari and Bengali digits and local AM/PM words.
The PDF is laid out by your browser’s text engine, so Arabic, Urdu, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean are shaped correctly, numbers never flip, and right-to-left chats read right to left. Emoji use your device’s emoji font.
The site itself is available in English, Português (Brasil), Español, Bahasa Indonesia, Türkçe, and العربية.
Limits, stated plainly
- chatinprint has no message limit and no watermark.
- WhatsApp’s own export limits: reported: 10,000 recent messages with media and reported: 40,000 without, as reported by several sources. WhatsApp’s own help page for exporting a chat does not state a limit, so treat these numbers as unconfirmed.
- Large chats are split into volumes so your phone stays responsive: about 2,000 messages or 250 photos per volume on a phone, 8,000 / 1,000 on a computer. Each volume has its own cover with the same fingerprint.
- Page numbers appear when you print from Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers from version 131; in other browsers the cover page says numbers aren’t supported, and the Transcript layout numbers every message instead.
- Voice notes and videos are listed with their name, size and fingerprint; they aren’t transcribed.
- HEIC photos appear as a card with their fingerprint; the original file is kept in the HTML archive.
- Encrypted backups (
.crypt14,.crypt15) can’t be read by anyone except WhatsApp. Use Export chat instead.
Questions
Is it really free? Is there a message limit?
Yes, and no. There's no message cap, no paywall and no watermark. Ads may appear on the guide pages only — never on the converter and never in your files.
Is my chat uploaded anywhere?
No. Your file is read inside this browser tab and its background workers. The page's security policy only allows it to contact this site and a cookieless visit counter, which never receives your chat. After your first visit it even works in airplane mode.
Why doesn't my PDF have page numbers?
Page numbers are added when you print from Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers from version 131. Other browsers can't add them yet; the cover page says so, and the Transcript layout numbers every message.
Can I use the PDF as evidence?
This PDF is a convenience copy generated on your device. It is not a certified, notarised or legally authenticated document. The SHA-256 values let anyone check that files were not changed after hashing. They do not prove who sent a message.
