Using chatinprint
Which exports work?
A WhatsApp chat exported as a .txt, as a .zip with media, or a .txt together with its photos and files, from Android or iPhone. You can also paste the chat text.
Which languages and scripts does it handle?
chatinprint reads exports from phones set to English (US, UK, India), Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Spain, Mexico and Latin America), Indonesian, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu and Russian — including Arabic-Indic, Devanagari and Bengali digits and local AM/PM words.
The PDF is laid out by your browser's text engine, so Arabic, Urdu, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean are shaped correctly and right-to-left chats read right to left. The site itself is available in English, Português (Brasil), Español, Bahasa Indonesia, Türkçe, and العربية.
Why do I need the print dialog instead of a Download button?
The PDF is laid out by your browser's own print engine, which is what makes Arabic, Hindi, Thai and every other script come out right. The print dialog's Save as PDF is one extra tap; we show you where it is for your browser.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, after your first visit. The site saves itself for offline use, and the offline note under the drop zone tells you when it's ready. Try it in airplane mode.
I can't find Export chat in WhatsApp.
When anyone in the chat has turned on Advanced Chat Privacy, the others can't export it, and the menu also differs between Android and iPhone. Export chat missing or greyed out? walks through both.
Privacy
Is my chat uploaded anywhere?
No. Your file is read inside this browser tab and its background workers. The page's security policy only allows it to contact this site and a cookieless visit counter, which never receives your chat. After your first visit it even works in airplane mode.
What does chatinprint count about my visit?
Only coarse counts through Plausible, a cookieless analytics service — that a file was loaded (a .txt, a .zip or several files, and a size range); that reading it finished (Android or iPhone, a message-count range, the export's language from a fixed list, and how many warnings); that a file wasn't supported and why; which layout was used, how many volumes and whether photos were included; which kind of browser opened the print dialog; which export was downloaded; and which error code appeared. Never names, file names, message text, fingerprints or dates. The full list is on the privacy page.
How do I delete my data?
There's nothing of yours to delete on our side, because your chat is never uploaded. On your device, closing the tab or choosing Convert another releases the chat from memory. chatinprint stores only your display preferences (layout, paper and text size) in your browser; clearing this site's data removes them.
What the PDF shows
Why doesn't my PDF have page numbers?
Page numbers are added when you print from Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers from version 131. Other browsers can't add them yet; the cover page says so, and the Transcript layout numbers every message.
Why do some photos show as a card instead of the picture?
HEIC photos (common on iPhones) can't be decoded by every browser, so chatinprint doesn't draw them; each appears as a card with the file name, size and SHA-256 fingerprint. The original file is kept in the HTML archive.
Are voice notes transcribed?
No. Voice notes and videos are listed with their name, size and fingerprint. Transcription would need an AI model, and chatinprint doesn't send your audio anywhere.
Limits and big chats
Why was my chat split into volumes?
So your device stays responsive. On a phone a volume holds about 2,000 messages or 250 photos, on a computer about 8,000 messages or 1,000 photos, and the split falls on a month boundary where it can.
Every volume has its own cover page, "Volume 1 of 3" and so on, with the same SHA-256 fingerprint of your export, so the volumes belong together.
The page stopped on my phone with a big chat. What now?
Large chats with many photos use a lot of memory. Close other tabs and try again; chatinprint splits big chats into volumes for this reason. A computer handles the largest chats more comfortably, and an export Without media is much lighter.
Can it open a WhatsApp backup (.crypt14 or .crypt15)?
No. Backups are encrypted so that only WhatsApp can read them. Use Export chat instead — the export guide shows how.
Evidence and fingerprints
Can I use the PDF as evidence?
This PDF is a convenience copy generated on your device. It is not a certified, notarised or legally authenticated document. The SHA-256 values let anyone check that files were not changed after hashing. They do not prove who sent a message.
Not legal advice. Consult a lawyer. More in Using a WhatsApp conversation as evidence.
What do the SHA-256 values prove?
The SHA-256 values let anyone check that files were not changed after hashing. They do not prove who sent a message.
Anyone can check a file by computing its SHA-256 and comparing it with the value in the manifest; Using a WhatsApp conversation as evidence shows the commands for Windows, macOS and Linux.
